Born
here in 1982 to our laboratory research group, he is a miracle that
showed that the former lab chimps could be good mothers as well as good
chimps. This was not always known until Lion Country Safari took a chance
and gave these chimps a place to be chimps. Ian is named after the son
of
the grad student, Linda Koebner, who conducted the experiment in the mid
1970's, on an island here at Lion Country Safari.
Born
here in 1982, Sabrina is an expert coconut cracker. She is quiet compared
to the rest of her vocal group, but vary capable of standing her ground
and
expressing herself. She is all chimp and has little use for humans unless
there
are goodies to acquire. Her wildness is her charm and makes her a strong
addition to her social group.
Born
in 1968 at the Baltimore Zoo, Melody has a beautiful silver coat and a
winning smile. She is a wonderful alloparent who has helped with the chimpification
of many hand-raised chimpanzees. Melody has Type 2 diabetes, so she is
under
medication and often brought up into the "house" for testing
by our medical team
which is dedicated to giving her the best care and hope for a long life.
