BEAR SCOUT: Achievement 5: Sharing Your World With Wildlife

Note: Lion Country Safari's badge workshop will help your Scout group
prepare for earning a badge. The following list will help you to understand
what Lion Country Safari covers, and what the Scout and/or group will need
to do to complete the badge requirements. All badge workshops must be
arranged in advance.


4 of the 5 are required to earn the badge
This badge is part of the World Conservation Award (cf. p. 259 in Dear Scout book).
At Lion Country Safari
(during your badge workshop)
Scouts need to do on their own
(or as a Den activity)
5 A: Lion Country Safari will do an animal presentation
(bird or other animal) for your group.
5 B: Make a pinecone bird feeder.
5 C: Talk about what wildlife conservation officers do.
Explain why all animals need food, water, shelter, space.
Explain how Lion Country Safari provides these for wild
animals to help them survive. Talk about various careers
in conservation.
5 D: Lion Country Safari serves as the place to visit for
this requirement.
5 E: Explain what endangered species are. Talk about
some of the programs or organizations (ex.: SSP, CITES)
that help to protect endangered species. Give info sheets
about extinct animals. Point out animals at Lion Country
Safari that are endangered or threatened.
5 A: Make a poster showing what you've learned
about that animal.
5 C: Explain what you learned about animals' needs
and what conservation officers do.
5 E: Name an animal that is on the endangered species
list. Name an animal that has become extinct in the
past 100 years. Explain how animals become extinct.
