BOY SCOUT: Fish & Wildlife Management

Note: Lion Country Safari's badge workshop will help your Scout group
prepare for earning a badge. The following list will help you to understand
what Lion Country Safari covers, and what the Scout and/or group will need
to do to complete the badge requirements. All badge workshops must be
arranged in advance.


At Lion Country Safari
(during your badge workshop)
Scouts need to do on their own
(or as a Den activity)
1. Describe the meaning and purposes of fish and wildlife
conservation and management.
2. List and discuss at least three major problems that continue
to threaten our state's fish and wildlife resources.
3. Describe some practical ways in which everyone can help
with fish and wildlife conservation efforts.
4. List and describe five major fish and wildlife management
practices used by managers in your state.
6. Observe and record 25 species of wildlife. Your list
may include mammals, birds, reptiles, or fish. Record
when and where each was seen.
5. Do one of the following (see book):
---a)
artificial nest boxes
---b)
bird feeders
---c)
backyard wildlife habitat
---d)
wildlife blind
7. Do one of the following:
---a)
Determine the age of five species of fish from scale
---samples or identify various age classes of one species
---in a lake
---b)
Conduct a creel census on a small lake to estimate
---catch per effort.
---c)
Examine the stomach contents of three species of
---fish and record the findings.
---d)
Make a freshwater aquarium.
