BOY SCOUT: Mammal Study

Note: Lion Country Safari's badge workshop will help your Scout group
prepare for earning a badge. The following list will help you to understand
what Lion Country Safari covers, and what the Scout and/or group will need
to do to complete the badge requirements. All badge workshops must be
arranged in advance.


At Lion Country Safari
(during your badge workshop)
Scouts need to do on their own
(or as a Den activity)
1. Explain the meaning of the following terms: Animal,
invertebrate, vertebrate, mammal. Name three characteristics
that distinguish mammals from all other animals.
2. Explain how the animal kingdom is classified. Explain
where mammals fit into this classification. Classify 3 mammals
from phylum through species.
4. Do ONE of the following.
--g. Trace two possible food chains of carnivorous
-----mammals from soil through four stages to the mammal.
3. Do ONE of the following.
--a. Spend 3 hours in each of 2......
--b. Spend 3 hours on each of 5 days....
--c. From study and reading, write.....
5. Working with your counselor, select and carry
out one project that will influence the numbers of one
or more mammals in a positive way.
