BOY SCOUT: Nature Badge

Note: Lion Country Safari's badge workshop will help your Scout group
prepare for earning a badge. The following list will help you to understand
what Lion Country Safari covers, and what the Scout and/or group will need
to do to complete the badge requirements. All badge workshops must be
arranged in advance.


At Lion Country Safari

Scouts need to do on their own
(or as a Den activity)
1. Name three ways in which plants are important to animals
2. Name the three ways in which animals are important to
plants.
3. Explain the term "food chain." Give an example of a
four-step land food chain and a four-step water food chain.
4. Do all the requirements in five of the following fields:
--a. Birds

In the field identify 8 species of birds
------Make a bird feeder.
--b. Mammals
-------
In the field, identify 3 species of mammals
-------
Make casts of a wild mammal
--c. Reptiles and Amphibians

Show that you recognize venomous snakes in our area.

In the field, identify 3 species of reptiles
------Recognize 1 species of toad or frog by voice.

In the field, identify 15 species of plants.
5. Do ONE:

Grow seeds in 2 kinds of soil.

4. Do all the requirements in five of the following fields:

Birds

Install it; list which birds use it for a month.

Collect & label seeds of 6 plants or the leaves of
