BOY SCOUT: Photography Badge

Note: Lion Country Safari's badge workshop will help your Scout group
prepare for earning a badge. The following list will help you to understand
what Lion Country Safari covers, and what the Scout and/or group will need
to do to complete the badge requirements. All badge workshops must be
arranged in advance.


Note: For this badge, Scouts must provide their own camera.
At Lion Country Safari
(during your badge workshop)
Scouts need to do on their own
(or as a Den activity)
1) Tell what makes a good picture.
2a) Take pictures illustrating at least 8 of these:
----1. Camera steadiness
----2. Rule of thirds
----3. level horizon
----4. Moving in close - fill the frame
----5. Framing
----6. Direction of light: front, side, back.
----7.Quality of light: flat, bright, time of day.
----8. Point of view: eye level, high, low angle.
----9. Use of leading lines.
----10. Flash
3) Explain how photographic film is processed and tell how
black-and-white prints are made.
4) Do the following:
----a. Explain he basic parts of a camera using a diagram.
----b. Explain common photographic terms such as: lens,
------shutter, view finder, camera angle, exposure, negative,
------transparency, f-number, and planning card.
5) Describe jobs in photography.

2b) Do one of the following:
----1. Expose a roll of print film & select 5-10 good pictures.
-------Mount them on a large art board or in a poto album.
----2. Expose 50 feet of movie film and edit it to at least 25
-------feet of quality movies that tell a story.
----3. Expose a roll of slide film and select 10 or more good
-------slides to tell your story.
