JUNIOR GIRL SCOUT: Earth Connections

Note: Lion Country Safari's badge workshop will help your Scout group
prepare for earning a badge. The following list will help you to understand
what Lion Country Safari covers, and what the Scout and/or group will need
to do to complete the badge requirements. All badge workshops must be
arranged in advance.

Scouts need to do on their own
(or as a Den activity)
1. Be an ecologist:
-Visit a natural area and study an ecosystem: List plants &
animals, levels of plant life, record temp. at levels; note soil
layers.
3. Identify that tree
- Learn to identify 10 tree species.
6. Saving animals and plants
- Visit Lion Country Safari. Learn about the research and
programs we participate in to help preserve species.
7. Adapt or perish
- Learn about ways plants or animals have adapted in order
to survive.
8. Plants and people
- Learn to identify 5 different plants native to our area.
10. Earth as an Ecosystem
- Learn about what is being done to protect the earth's
ecosystems.

2. Traveling through time
- Draw what you might see in the future for 2 of these:
Lake/pond next to marsh; fallen tree; vacant lot or
meadow; burned forest
4. Reading the rings
- Read the growth rings on a tree stump.
5. Eco-games
- Play a game that shows how plants and animals depend
upon each other.
9. Observing change
- Make animal or plant observations over time.
