Antelope
We met with one of the Hoofstock Keepers, who told us all about the many species of antelope that call Lion Country Safari home. We learned that antelope have horns, not antlers, and we even got to see and feel real antelope horns and deer antlers. We also walked around a bit to learn to identify various tracks and scat, and the keeper took us on a guided tour to learn more about these fascinating animals. |

Lory
For this week's Bird day, we visited the Lory Encounter, where one of the bird keepers told us all about these colorful, friendly birds that live in Austrailia and the surrounding islands. They climbed all over our hats and arms. We learned that they like to play with hats, sunglasses, hair scrunchies, etc. We got to feed them, and some of us had our pictures taken with them! |
|
Skink
At the Animal Theatre, Joe or Aaron taught us all about Clymer, the Solomon Island Prehensile-Tailed skink. We watched her climb up her rope on stage, and some of us had our pictures taken with her! |
|
Reptile Keeper
We met up with Leigh or Stephanie, two of the reptile keepers, who taught us how to prepare iguana diets. We watched the reptiles being fed, counted the alligators in the moat, and some of us even helped to clean the windows on the iguana house and the burmese python exhibit. |
|
Insects
On a nature hike with our insect boxes, we caught and identified some bugs, and then we released them. We made bug boxes at craft time, and each group created a large bug to decorate the pavilion for this week's poster contest. |
