Day Camp 2004 - Week 7

Monkey
Monkey
We met with Joe from the education department, who helped us make enrichments for our spider monkeys and squirrel monkeys. Then we learned about these primates when we met up with one of the primate keepers, at the Squirrel Monkey exhibit. The keepers had us forage through the sand for some rubber worms, and as a reward we got a gummy worm in exchange for the rubber worm we found.

Ostrich Ostrich

On our drive through the preserve, we were able to observe these fascinating birds up close. Although they cannot fly, ostriches can run up to 40 m.p.h., and some of them seem to enjoy peeking in the windows of our vehicles.

Tortoise
Tortoise
For Tortoise day, we helped prepare the diets for our Aldabra tortoises, and we were the special guests at the 2:00 p.m. Tortoise Talk. And we had our photo taken with one of the smaller tortoises. Of course, we also made tortoise crafts and played a tortoise game.

Bird Keeper

We learned about the biodiversity of the world's rainforests, and we were able to meet a couple of these animals at a presentation in the Animal Theatre,
where some of us had our photo taken with one of theAnimals. We also learned that there are some things that we can do to help preserve this important habitat. And, we went on a Rainforest Scavenger Hunt through Safari World
