Day Camp 2004 - Week 8

Elephant Elephant

Elephant
In the morning we got to make an enrichment for the elephants, which we took with us out to elephant island. We got to met one of the pachyderm
keepers. Terry Wolf, Wildlife Manager told us all about these endangered animals. We even got to see the elephant keepers give our enrichment to the
elephants. The elephants seemed to love the enrichments, they even ate the bamboo.

Flamingo
Flamingo
Did you know that Lion Country Safari has two species of Flamingo? And only one female Flamingo? We learned how to tell which one is the girl (hint: you can't tell just by looking at her natural features). We then tried to draw some of them.

Snake Snake

Snake
On our snake day we met Joe from education in front of the commissary where he told us all about the snakes of the world. Some of us got to have our picture taken with the Florida Kingsnake 'King Louie'. We also got to make a snake themed craft and play some snaked themed games.

Animal Theater
Animal Theater
What's it like to stand up on stage and tell the public about conservation? We learned this firsthand when we helped the Education staff with the 1:00 p.m. presentation. We made up our own jingle or song to tell people how
important the rainforests are. We learned that we should get a B.A. or B.S. in Education, Biology, or a related field if we'd like to do this for a living.

Africa
Africa
Lion Country Safari has many different species of animals from Africa. We drove through the preserve to try to identify as many as possible, and then we did a scavenger hunt in Safari World to learn more about African animals.
