Day Camp Staff 2005

Kim
Group 1 - Kim
A graduate of BYU with a BS in Elementary Education, Kim is a teacher at Orchard Elementary during the school year. This is her third year with Safari Day Camp. Kim says, "I love hearing the children remember what I've taught them. One time, they saw a dark male and all yelled, 'He's the boss!'" Her favorite animal here is the white-handed gibbon. In her spare time, Kim enjoys art, calligraphy, and lacrosse.

Sean
Group 2 - Sean
Although this is Sean's first year as a camp counselor, this is actually his 8th year with Safari Day Camp: the first 3 as a camper, the following 4 as a CIT, and now as a counselor. A native Floridian, Sean and his family live in PBG with their 2 dogs, 2 cats, bird, rabbit, boa, and 4 turtles. In his spare time, Sean likes to draw and spend time with his animals. A freshman at PBCC studying Biology, Sean also works part-time at Publix. His most memorable moment was bowling with the other camp counselors.

Terese
Group 3 - Terese
Terese has taught in Broward and Palm Beach counties for the past 7 years. This is her first year working at Safari Day Camp, but she first learned about us by bringing her niece (a camper) here. She says her most memorable moment is "watching the children's smiles and excitement as we drive through the preserve." Her favorite animals here are the elephants. She and her family live in RPB with their dog Chauncy, cats McCavity and Kitty, and bird Sonny. In her spare time, Terese enjoys hiking, canoeing, and reading.

Kacey
Group 4 - Kacey
A senior Computer Animation major at UCF, Kacey has been a counselor with Safari Day Camp for 3 years. She and her family live in Wellington with their Alaskan malamute and cat. In her spare time, Kacey enjoys playing tennis and doing portraits of people. Kacey's favorite animals at Lion Country Safari are the hornbills. Her most memorable moment at Lion Country Safari is "my summer green letter adventures."

Jackie
Group 5 - Jackie
A sophomore majoring in Social Work at FSU, this is Jackie's first year with Safari Day Camp. She says she likes learning so much about animals here, and her favorite animals are the white-handed gibbons. Jackie's most memorable moment was "the lion release. It was awesome!" Jackie and
her family have 3 dogs and 2 veromastix. In her spare time, she enjoys playing softball and surfing.

Hollie
Group 6 - Hollie
Currently a student at Palm Beach Community College, Hollie has been a counselor with Safari Day Camp for 3 years. She and her family live in Loxahatchee with their 4 dogs and 2 cats. In her spare time, Hollie enjoys playing softball. Hollie's favorite animals at Lion Country Safari are the lions. Her most memorable moment here is "going bowling with the other camp counselors." What she likes best about working here is "seeing the kids' reactions to going behind the scenes."

Brett
Group 7 - Brett
A junior Psychology major at Suffolk U (MA), this is Brett's first year with Safari Day Camp. In his spare time, Brett enjoys sports. His favorite place to visit is Fenway Park because "I love the Red Sox, and there is no place like Fenway." He says he really likes the environment at Lion Country Safari - "everyone is so nice." His most memorable moment here was orientation: "It was a blast."

Lexi
Group 8 - Lexi
A graduate of FAU, Alexis is a middle school science teacher. This is her first year with Safari Day Camp. She and her family live in Wellington with their 2 cats, horse, and salt water fish. Her favorite animals here are Gonzo the sloth and Trouble the tortoise. In her spare time, Alexis enjoys horseback riding and SCUBA diving. Her favorite place to visit is the Caribbean because "the most beautiful place in the world is under the sea." Her most memorable experience here was "the awesome funnel clouds Week 1."

Laura
Extra Counselor - Laura
A senior English major at UF, Laura has been with Safari Day Camp for 2 years. She and her family live in Wellington with their
beagle and 2 gerbils. Laura's favorite animals at Lion Country Safari are "the squirrel monkeys at the moment." She says that "being outdoors and around animals and kids" are what she likes best about working here. Laura says "all of the moments at Lion Country Safari are memorable."

Andrea
Extra Counselor - Andrea
A junior Animal Sciences major at the University of Florida, Andrea enjoys the beach, reading, hiking, and rappelling. She
and her family live in Wellington with their cocker spaniel and rabbit. Andrea's favorite animals at Lion Country Safari are the elephants. Her most memorable moment at Lion Country Safari is "the expedition to the Dead Zone." This is Andrea's second year with Safari Day Camp.

tracey
Lifeguard - Tracey
A senior at Wellington High School, Tracey is dual-enrolled at PBCC and FAU. This is Tracey's second year as Safari Day Camp lifeguard. Tracey and her family live in Wellington with their 2 cats. In her spare time Tracey enjoys SCUBA diving, swimming, surfing, and reading. Tracey's favorite animal here is Gonzo the sloth. She says "every moment at LCS is memorable." She says the best part about working here is "the atmosphere is always friendly and everyone is so helpful."

Rhonda
Education Director - Rhonda
At Lion Country Safari since 1998, Rhonda was an instructor at PBCC for 11 years, at a private school for 6 years, and at Penn State for a year prior to joining the LCS Education team. She earned her B.A. in English at USF and studied Comparative literature in graduate school at Penn State. She has had a lifelong love of animals and says that Lion Country Safari is "a wonderful place for everyone to learn to appreciate wildlife and wild places." She says the best part about working here is "every day is a new adventure." Her most memorable moments have been "meeting several of my former students visiting Lion Country with their spouses and children. Some have even been summer campers!"

Sondra
Groups Coordinator - Sondra
A Florida native, Sondra has been at Lion Country Safari for almost one year. She and her family live in RPB with their 2 basset hounds, 4 lovebirds, and 2 parakeets. After getting a degree in legal studies at South U, Sondra worked at the Palm Beach Zoo before joining our Education staff. Her favorite animal here is Clymer the prehensile-tailed skink. She has two "most memorable moments": The Free Palm Beach Post Day and preparing for the hurricanes last fall. "It was great to watch the gators and walk-thru animals being secured," she says. In her spare time, Sondra enjoys traveling, gardening, and reading.

Sean
Education - Sean
In his second year with Lion Country Safari's Education Department, Sean received his A.S. from Santa Fe Teaching Zoo, and his B.S. in Biology at the State University of New York - Oswego. Sean lives in WPB with his miniature schnauzer and 2 parakeets. His favorite animal here is Ike the baby alligator. Before joining our education staff, Sean worked as an animal keeper at the Palm Beach Zoo. Sean says that his most memorable moment was "helping take pictures of special (celebrity) guests for the marketing department."

Aaron
Education - Aaron
In his fifth year with Lion Country Safari's Education Department, Aaron received his A.A. degree at San Diego State and his BA in Spanish at FAU. He is also a certified lifeguard. He says the best part of working at Lion Country Safari is "the interaction with people and animals." Aaron's favorite animal here is Gonzo the sloth. His most memorable moment was "being featured at Lion Country Safari on the Spanish TV show Control."

Joe
Education - Joe
In his fourth year with Lion Country Safari's Education Department, Joe received his BS in Biology from the University of South Dakota. He is also a certified lifeguard. He says the best part of working at Lion
Country Safari is "the interaction with the animals and the opportunity to educate the public about wildlife." Joe says that "it is difficult to choose a favorite animal because they are all special and unique in their own way." His most memorable moment was "training Eddy (Double Yellow-Headed Amazon) to step-up onto a stick."

Kelli
Education - Kelli
This is Kelli's third year with Safari Day Camp; however, this is her first year in
Education -- the other two years, she was in Wildlife and did some of the Keeper Talks. A graduate of Santa Fe Teaching Zoo (FL) and Delta College in MI, Kelli lives in WPB with her dog Mya, cats Max & Chase, and leopard tortoise Cameron. In her spare time, Kelli enjoys reading, wood burning, going to the movies, and taking care of her pets. Her favorite place to visit is Cedar Point, OH because she loves roller coasters. Her most memorable moment at Lion Country Safari was "observing Terry Wolf collect semen from Bulwagi, our African elephant."

Stephanie
Education - Stephanie
This is Stephanie's first year with Safari Day Camp. After earning her B.S. in History at Suffolk U in Boston, Stephanie was a political science researcher and a paralegal before joining our Education staff this year. Stephanie says her favorite moments are "when guests show a genuine interest in learning about our animals and their ecosystems. I love answering questions and teaching children about the natural world and inspiring respect for animals and our environment. Her favorite animal here is CiCi, the sulfur-crested cockatoo. In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys playing guitar, listening to rock of the 60s and 70s, and studying military and political history. Her favorite place to visit is "anywhere there's a good concert because I enjoy southern rock."
