Day Camp 2006 - Week 4

Giraffe
Giraffe
We met a Wildlife staff member, who told us all about the giraffe, and then we were able to feed them. We also received a giraffe hair to keep. Some of us had our photo taken with them, too. We made a special giraffe craft to take home.

Macaw
Macaw
We met an Education staff member, who led us in making enrichments for all the parrots. Then we met another Education staff member who told us all about the macaws. We have 4 different types of macaws at Lion Country Safari: blue and gold, scarlet, military, and greenwing. Some of us had our photo taken with one of the macaws. And we made a parrot craft later that day. We also held the baby chicks and candled eggs. A special treat this week was the hatching of a flamingo chick!

Python
Python
Wildlife director Terry and several other wildlife staff members took Elizabeth, the Burmese python, out of her exhibit to weigh and measure her. We learned all about snakes. Some of us had our photo taken with one of the ball pythons. And, at craft time, we made a snake to take home.

Primate Keeper
Primate Keeper
One of the Education staff members led us
in making enrichments for the primates in Safari World. Then we took the enrichments and gave them to the primate keepers, who told us all about the spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and siamangs. Then, they gave our enrichments to these primates and we watched them interact with the treats. We made a primate craft to take home, too.

Tracks
Tracks
On Track Day, we learned that different animals make different footprints. We then took a drive through the preserve and tried to identify at least 3 different track prints in each section. We also made a track craft to take home.
