Sloth
We met Gonzo, the Hoffman's two-toed sloth, at a special show at the Animal Theatre, and some of us even had our photos taken with this very cool mammal. We made a sloth craft and played a rainforest game, too. |
|
Crane
For our Bird Day, we met a bird keeper at the East African Crane exhibit and learned all about this beautiful species. We then played a game using chopsticks to try to pick up plastic ants, which taught us how the crane uses its beak to eat insects. We also met an education staff member who showed us how to candle eggs, and we held the baby chicks! We played a game and made a crane craft, too. |
|
Tortoise
We met the Commissary keeper and helped to prepare the Aldabra tortoises' diets. Then, we met an education staff member who told us all about tortoises. Some of us even got to hold one! We all had the chance to look inside an empty turtle shell, so be sure to ask us what we saw in there! We made a tortoise craft and played a game later. |

Hoofstock Keeper
We met Ms. Linda at the giraffe feeding area and helped to prepare the exhibit. She told us all about the giraffe and what keepers do to care for them. Then, we watched the giraffe being released into the yard. We looked at the giraffe identification book to see if we could figure out who's who at the Giraffe Exhibit. Next, we were able to feed them! And some of us had our pictures taken with them, too! Later, we played a game and made a giraffe craft. |

South America
Our Habitats Day was focused on animals from South America. At the 2:30 show in the Animal Theatre, we learned about 2 species that are indigenous to the continent of South America. Some of us had our photo taken with these animals. Next, we played a scavenger hunt to look for South American animals at Lion Country Safari. We also made a South American craft. |
