Day Camp 2008 - Week 4

Lion Lion

Lion
This week's mammal day was the lion. Each group made a paper mache animal for lion enrichment. Everyone watched on Tuesday morning as the lions were released and enjoyed tearing up the paper mache. On our lion day, we went up to the lions' night quarters, where the keepers told us all about these powerful felines. We also played a game and made a lion craft.

Lorys Lory

Lory
At the Lory Exhibit, we met an education staff member, who taught us about these colorful parrots. We also fed them their special nectar. Some of us had our photos taken with the lories. Later, we candled eggs with an education staff member and held the baby chicks. We made a special lory craft and played a bird game, too.

Python
Python
First, we met the wildlife director, who brought out the Burmese python to tell us all about this large reptile. She was weighed and measured for us; we learned that she weighs 148 lbs. And is 15.6 feet long! We later played a game and made a snake craft.

Petting Zoo Petting Zoo

Petting Zoo Keeper
Rakes, shovels, and brooms are some of the fun tools that the keepers use to clean behind-the-scenes at the Petting Zoo. We enjoyed using these tools to help the petting zoo keeper on our Keeper Day. Then we played a game and made a craft to remember our special keeper day.

Arboreal Arboreal

Arboreal Animals
We went to a special program at the Animal Theatre and learned about Arboreal Animals (animals that live in trees). Some of us had our photo taken with an arboreal creature. Later, we looked for arboreal animals in Safari World and then made a special craft.
