Chimpanzee
We had a lot of fun learning about chimpanzees
on our mammal day. First, we met an education staff member who showed
us how to make enrichments for these great apes. Then, we took our
enrichments to the preserve to give them to the chimp keepers. The
chimp keepers told us all about the chimpanzees and we were able to
see the primates interacting with the enrichments. We also played
a game with our feet to show how chimpanzees use their feet to pick
up objects. We later made a chimp craft to take home.

Amazon
Parrot
For bird day, we made enrichments for the parrots
under the supervision of an education staff member. Then, we met the
Amazon parrots at their exhibit and learned all about these tropical
birds. We met Eddie and Twizzler, and some of us even had our photos
taken with these beautiful parrots. Later, we met an education staff
member to candle eggs and to hold the baby chicks. We also played
a game and made a parrot craft. |

Gecko
On our reptile day, an education staff member taught
us about geckos. We were able to hold and even take a picture with
this amazing lizard. Later we played a gecko themed game and made
a craft to take home so we could remember meeting the gecko at Safari
Day Camp. |

Commissary Keeper
We learned that the commissary keeper prepares the diets for the animals
in Safari World and the Las Pampas section of the Preserve. And we helped
to clean the education animal exhibits at the commissary. We also played
a game and made a craft to remember our special keeper day. |
|
Insect
On our nature day we learned about the amazing world of insects with an
education staff member. We played a matching game to learn about the different
parts of an insect and dressed up as a bee. Later we took a nature hike
to catch and identify insects. We also made a fun insect craft to take home.
