Lion
Our mammal day was very exciting because we learned
about the LIONS at Lion Country Safari! First, our group made a paper-maché
animal as enrichment for the lions. Next, we all went out to the lion
section and watched the lions being released from their night house
and tear up the paper maché animals. We also went for a tour
to the lions' night house with the lion keeper. We made a special
lion craft and played a fun lion game, too. |

Ostrich
For our bird day, we candled eggs and held baby chicks, then we drove out
onto the preserve to meet one of the keepers who takes care of the ostriches.
We were able to open the doors of the vans to get a very up-close view of
the world's tallest birds, and to hold an ostrich egg. We made an ostrich
craft and played a fun bird game, too. |

Python
The surprise of the week was that Elizabeth the
Burmese python was getting ready to shed, and therefore could not
come out to visit us. We are hoping that she will be able to greet
us during week 8. However, we learned about these and the ball pythons,
and some of us had our photos taken with one of the ball pythons.
We made a cool snake craft and played a snake game, too. |

Primate
Keeper
Our keeper day was awesome! We made enrichments
for the primates in Safari World, and then we met a primate keeper
at the squirrel monkey exhibit. She told us about how she takes care
of these animals, and then we were able to individually feed the monkeys.
And, although this was a wonderful experience, we also learned that
monkeys do NOT make good pets. Later, we made a monkey craft and played
a fun keeper game. |

Arboreal
Animals
On our nature/habitat day, we learned that some
animals live in trees, and they are called arboreal animals. We watched
a special show at the Animal Theatre which featured a number of arboreal
creatures, such as birds, a skink, and a sloth. Some of us had our
photos taken with an arboreal animal. Later, we played a fun game
and made a special craft to remind us of the arboreal creatures that
we met today. |
