Rhino
For our mammal day, we drove out onto the preserve
to the rhino night house, where we met the keeper who told us all
about these large herbivores. We observed as each one walked through
the chute, where we were actually able to touch their thick skin before
they exited onto the preserve. Lion Country Safari participates in
the Species Survival Plan (SSP) which helps to save these endangered
animals. Later, we played a game and made a cool rhino craft to take
home. |

Macaw
We met an education staff member, who led us in
making enrichments for these large parrots and then told us all about
the macaws. Lion Country Safari has two different species: blue and
gold macaws and scarlet macaws. Some of us had our photo taken with
one of the macaws. And we made a parrot craft later that day. We also
held the baby chicks and candled eggs. |

Alligator
In the morning, we met an education staff member
who told us all about alligators, and then we were able to hold the
baby alligator. We met up with the education staff again at the 3:00
Alligator Chit-Chat and fed fish to the big gators. We made our own
alligators to take home during craft time. |

Reptile
Keeper
We met the reptile keeper at the iguana moat, where
we had to count the number of each species of reptile that is in the
exhibit. We then helped to prepare the diets for these animals and
put the food in the exhibit. We played a reptile themed game and made
a special reptile craft to take home, too. |

South
America
Our Habitats Day was focused on animals from South
America. At the 1:00 show in the Animal Theater, we learned about
some animals that are indigenous to the continent of South America.
Some of us had our photo taken with these animals. Next, we played
a scavenger hunt to look for South American animals at Lion Country
Safari. We also made a South American craft. |
