Day Camp 2009 - Week 6

Monkey

Monkey
We met an education staff member, who led us in making enrichments for the squirrel monkeys and other primates. Then we met a primate keeper who told us all about the squirrel monkeys and how she takes care of them. She also gave them the enrichment we made for them, and we watched what they did with it. We later played a fun game and made a monkey craft.

Pelican Pelican

Pelican
Bird day was really cool! First, we candled eggs with an education staff member and then held the baby chicks. Later, we met an education staff to learn all about these birds that are found in North and South America. Then, one of the keepers brought fish and we were able to feed them on the preserve! We also made a pelican craft and played a fun pelican feeding game.

Skink Skink

Skink
For our Reptile Day, we met an education staff member who told us about skinks. Lion Country Safari has a Solomon Island prehensile-tailed skink (Clymer) as well as a blue-tongued skink (Irwin). Some of us had our photo taken with one of these beautiful lizards. We also made a skink craft and played a game, too.

Animal Theater Animal Theater

Animal Theater
For this week's keeper day, we learned what is involved in producing a show in the Animal Theater, and the importance of getting across a conservation message to the general public. First, we met with show staff and planned our presentation. Later, we performed at the 1:00 show for the general public. Some of us had our photo taken with one of the education animals. And we later made a craft to remember our stage debut.

Africa Africa

Africa
For our habitat day, we learned about animals that live in Africa. We drove onto the preserve to look for African animals (Lion Country Safari has a lot of those!) and we later fed the giraffe at the Safari World giraffe feeding exhibit. Some of us had our photos taken there but we all had our photos taken with Rory-Lion Country Safari's mascot! We also played a game and made an African craft.
