World Oceans Day 2012 Saturday, June 2, 2012
Celebrate with Lion Country Safari on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from Noon - 3:00 pm to learn about how you can help make a difference in conservation of wildlife and wild places. Activities included free with your admission will include games, crafts, giveaways, Seafood Watch brochures, and the opportunity to participate in Stow It; Don’t Throw It (a project to help protect marine life from used fishing line).
A diverse and healthy ocean is important to all of us, no matter where we live. The ocean provides most of the oxygen we breathe and is a rich source of food and medicines. It also regulates the Earth’s climate, provides jobs and recreation, and inspires us.
Since 2002, The Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network have helped to promote and coordinate World Oceans Day events worldwide. Each year an increasing number of countries and organizations have been marking June 8th as an opportunity to celebrate our world oceans and our personal connection to the sea. Lion Country Safari, along with other facilities of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), joins this growing group. This year, Dr. Seuss will be continuing with the theme from the beloved children's book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Kids and families will get to know funny fish "from here to there" and learn how everyday actions impact their ocean home.
Christmas with the Chimps December 2012
Lion Country Safari, America's 1st cageless zoo, will celebrate the annual Christmas with the Chimps in December 2012. For over 20 years, Santa Claus has visited man's closest relative at Lion Country Safari's Chimp Islands, bearing wrapped gifts for the chimps. This is the only opportunity throughout the entire year that guests can get out of their vehicles to watch the chimps receive presents. Watch the excitement as some chimps toss the gifts back Santa's way too!!
