(Designed for grade 7)
To give students the opportunity to learn about Mendelian Genetics in a fun hands on experience.
Each organism has certain traits based off of the hereditary information given to it by its parents. In this lab, students will explore how probability plays a role in heredity in order to find specific genotypes and phenotypes of parents and their offspring.
This program meets the following Next Generation Sunshine State Standards and is STEAM compliant:
SC.7.L.16.1: Understand and explain that every organism requires a set of instructions that specifies its traits, that this heredity information (DNA) contains genes located on chromosomes of each cell, and that heredity is the passage of these instructions from one generation to another.
SC.7.L.16.2: Determine the probabilities for genotype and phenotype combinations using Punnett Squares and pedigrees.
